Is Spying On Your Spouse Ethical?

Are you worried that spying on your spouse is unethical? Not sure if surveillance is the right thing to do? You’re not alone. Many people are hesitant to conduct surveillance on their partner. Some people are hesitant to spy on their spouse because perhaps they may feel spying is an invasion of privacy, a lack of trust, or at the very least, irrational jealously. However, what about considering the benefits of conducting surveillance to protect your health? There is a real danger of contracting an STD,  or worse- a disease that is incurable or life threatening. Or what about the benefits of conducting surveillance to collect the important evidence you need to file for a divorce? A judge may take evidence of adultery into consideration when dividing assets and finances. Truth is, there are no easy answers. There are many reasons a spouse may decide to spy on his/her partner. Three of the most common reasons are:

1. To Protect Their Heart

Something doesn’t feel right. You’ve been in a relationship with your spouse for a while now, and things just aren’t the same. You just can’t shake the feeling you have in the pit of your stomach. In relationships, sometimes we ignore our intuition in hopes that our suspicions are wrong. It’s important to trust what you feel. If things don’t feel right, they probably aren’t right. Our intuition is our immediate understanding of a situation. It’s emotionally draining to continuously feel unsure about your relationship. We invest a lot of time, money, and energy in our relationships. You have a right to test the strength of that bond. Listen to your intuition. It will help you avoid unhealthy relationships. One of our licensed private investigators can help you confirm what you suspect.

2.  To Protect Their Heath

Although protecting your emotions and your heart may be reason to hire a private investigator and conduct surveillance on your spouse, perhaps protecting your health may be an even bigger reason. There is a real danger of contracting a sexually transmitted disease if a spouse is cheating. If your spouse is having unprotected sex, they could be putting your health at risk. Health is a very important concern, and it is also a good reason to hire a private investigator to confirm your suspicions. There is no reason to be hesitant about protecting your health. AIDS/HIV is a serious threat. No relationship is worth dying for. It’s downright disrespectful for your spouse to have unprotected sex outside of your marriage. If this is the case, you certainly have a right to protect yourself.

3. To Protect Their Interest In Divorce

If you live in an ‘at fault’ state, evidence of adultery can be beneficial to your case.  In Louisiana, a divorce is uncontested when couples agree to the terms of the divorce. In an uncontested divorce, or ‘no fault’ divorce, there is a waiting period before the divorce is final. However, when one spouse proves adultery, there is no waiting period before the divorce is final. Surveillance on an unfaithful spouse can produce the evidence you need to quickly remove yourself from an unhealthy relationship. Proof of adultery may also help you gain an advantage in divorce proceedings. A court may take this information into account when it comes to dividing finances and assets. Not only can our licensed private investigators help you collect evidence to prove adultery, we can also help you identify hidden assets for your divorce proceedings as well.

Our agency encourages people in a trusting relationship to communicate openly and honestly with each other. If you are the suspecting partner, try to communicate your concerns with your partner first. If your intuition is still giving you cause for concern after your attempt to communicate honestly, give us a call. Our licensed private investigators at Sly Fox Investigations can help you document your cheating spouse to bring you peace of mind, closure, and sanity. Is surveillance ethical? When it comes to your protection- absolutely.
